Cheaper than left-luggage storage

Bag in Locker storage unit

Our Southwark storage centre is a taxi, car or bus ride away from Liverpool Street Railway Station and can often work out much cheaper alternative than any on-site left-luggage services that may be available.

For example*: If you’re a family with 4 bags to store for 5 days - the typical cost of leaving luggage at major London transport hubs can be as much as £8 per bag per day - and five days could easily cost well over £100.

ABC Selfstore lockers - which will take all 4 bags and more - start at less than £2 a day. That could save you £100 on that 5 day stay with 4 bags! If you have more bags or are staying longer then the savings could be even greater.

About Liverpool Street Railway Station

Liverpool Street Station connects the main Great Eastern Line and West Anglia Main Line to London. It also has a number of smaller links to areas just outside London, particularly in the Essex area, and runs the Stansted Express to the airport. It is one of the most used stations in the UK, and has over 100 million people use the site each year. It also has a connected Underground station which provides Central, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City line service. The station also connects London to tourist destinations such as Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Colchester and Harwich, the latter then being the terminus of the Holland Ferry. Most of the services from this station use the East Anglia National Express service which covers Ipswich, Norwich, Cambridge and other areas in the Anglian region.

Liverpool Street Station was founded on the site of the Bethlem Royal Hospital (Bedlam), and did not open until 1875. This is considerably later than some of the other major train station, and was mainly used as a replacement terminal for Bishopsgate, which was then turned into a good station before being demolished. The Liverpool Street Station was built to allow the owners of the Great Eastern Railway to bring passengers further into London. However, because the designers had to include a link to the Metropolitan Railway (now disused) the lines were forced to descend from the viaducts, causing an extremely angled gradient for locomotives coming out of the station. This design was highly criticised for this reason, including being condemned by the Chairman of Great Eastern, Lord Salisbury.

Liverpool Street Station was one of the first places in London to be bombed, being hit during World War I by a German bomber. This bombing killed around 162 people, and damaged the building to a great extend. Liverpool Street had a better experience in the 1930s, being the location where Jewish children arrived in London as part of the kindertransport.

The experiences of the wars began to tell on the station, and by the 1970s most people agreed that Liverpool Street was looking dilapidated and tired. Beginning in that decade, a serious restoration project was launched. The platforms were modified, but parts of the station including the facade and a memorial dedicated to Railway workers who had died in the Great War were kept. The modern roof was built to match the surviving parts of the Victorian station, although these parts were painted different colours so that viewers could tell the difference between old and new.
