Cheaper than left-luggage storage

Bag in Locker storage unit

Our Camden storage centre is a taxi, car or bus ride away from St Pancras Railway Station and can often work out much cheaper alternative than any on-site left-luggage services that may be available.

For example*: If you’re a family with 4 bags to store for 5 days - the typical cost of leaving luggage at major London transport hubs can be as much as £8 per bag per day - and five days could easily cost well over £100.

ABC Selfstore lockers - which will take all 4 bags and more - start at less than £2 a day. That could save you £100 on that 5 day stay with 4 bags! If you have more bags or are staying longer then the savings could be even greater.

About St Pancras Railway Station

Known as London St Pancras, or as St Pancras International, this London railway station is at the heart of the city's international appeal. As well as connecting the East Midlands and parts of Yorkshire, St Pancras has had a long and varied life, and now is part of the regenerated area around Kings Cross Central station. It is considered by some to be a beautiful example of the Victorian train station, and its impact to the current era has made it an international hub with connections to Paris and Flanders.

St Pancras Station was built in the 1860s, one of the last great stations built in an era known as the 'Railway Mania'. It is during this period that most of London's Victorian stations were built, and St Pancras was built by the Midland Railway, with the intention of connecting Leicestershire, Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire. Local landowners, including William Whitbread, encouraged the Railway to purchase land along this corridor, and approval had been granted by 1853. As Midland Railway already had one route into London, through Euston, passenger traffic quickly expanded alongside freight and other business transits.

The land around St Pancras was chosen due to the cheapness of land value in the area. Its slums were well known, particularly Agar or Ague Town. This slum had been built of very poor quality materials, and Somer's Town nearby was no better, with the residents mainly consisting of transient workers and the desperately poor. Midland Railway demolished these slums, and evicted the residents with no reimbursement. The site was problematic even after the slum had been cleared, because the ground was sloping and misshapen. The directors of the company were less practical, and were more concerned with building an imposing station, rather like the monuments of Euston and King's Cross stations nearby. They held a competition for the design, which was won by George Gilbert Scott with a gothic revival style.

With the coming of the 20th century, St Pancras station fell into the hands of British Railways. Even after the company had completed electrification, there was much debate about the long-term future of the station. There were several attempts by BR to close the station, and only the intervention of John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, plus national opposition, prevented the closure. This brought St Pancras Station to the attention of designers, and when the Channel Tunnel Rail Link was being developed, planners created a link approaching from the East, with St Pancras as the terminal. Although shelved to start with, St Pancras international station was finally connected with the Eurostar in 2007.
