How much space will I need?

Overestimating how much space you need is all too common. You'll end up paying for more than you need or just not bothering because the price puts you off.

We can help you make a more accurate judgement on what size unit to rent and help with packing tips [link] so you take up less space.

If you want to estimate it yourself, here are our ABC Selfstore rules of thumb...

Boxes

8 x Tea Chest or 25 x Archive Boxes = 20 sq ft

20 x Tea Chest or 50 x Archive Boxes = 30 sq ft

per 100 Archive Boxes = 40 sq ft (No aisle space)

per 100 Archive Boxes = 60 sq ft (With aisle space)

Bedrooms

1 x Bedroom = 50 - 60 sq ft

2 x Bedrooms = 80 - 90 sq ft

3 x Bedrooms = 100 - 120 sq ft

4+ x Bedroom = 150 - 200 sq ft

Vehicles

A = Transit Van 35 - 45 sq ft

B = Luton Van 70 - 80 sq ft

C = 7.5 Tonne Van 140 - 170 sq ft

Metric conversion

A unit with a floor size of 5 feet by 2 feet

= 10 square feet

= approx 1 square meter
