With holidays in term time costing as little as 1/4 the price of a non-term equivalent it’s no surprise that they are an appealing proposition for families on a budget. In spite of Department of Education policy that children aren’t allowed absence during the school term, theres a growing number of parents who are prepared to flout the rules, pay the fine (£60 per child per parent) and grab themselves a bargain.
Whether the DoE rules are proportionate or not is a hotly contested debate. For many families it’s the only way to afford a proper break, spend quality time with their children, help them expand their understanding of the wider world and learn new things.
So, with a family-friendly holiday responsibly hat on – and in no way wishing to upset the head teacher (who if truth be told probably thinks the DoE policy is barmy anyway) – here’s our pick of some term time autumn sun holiday bargains.
When it comes to booking a holiday, it’s hard to find better value than with an all inclusive package. With flights, transfers, accommodation, full-board all part of the deal – what’s not to like? You’ll know exactly where you are before you leave and – with the exception of some spending money for on site entertainment and perhaps a drinks fund – you have control over how much it will all cost.
We used a combination of holidaydiscountcentre.co.uk, skyscanner.net and travel supermarket.com to find some cracking destinations and typical examples of the sorts of deals to be had. Deals like this get snapped up quickly so these will be gone – but there are plenty more being posted daily. You’ve just got to be in the right place (the end of the internet) at the right time.
Albufeira, Portugal – 7 nights all inclusive, for £102 per person
The poor state of the Portuguese economy was the talk Eurozone economists two years ago – but that made the tourist industry in the country compete hard for business. The result is there are some stunning deals to be had. Amongst the best on the Algarve, Albufeira – is the Clube Praia da Oura. At £102 inclusive of flights (departing 30th October) it is stunning value – and with the accommodation averaging 4 /5 on Trip Advisor it looks like a good bet. We found this deal over on holidaydiscountcentre.co.uk
Cala’N Bosch, Menorca – 7 nights all inclusive, for £274.50 per person
If the Algarve is a little too Atlantic for your liking, then how about Menorca? The Balearics don’t represent the super-value-low-budget bargain that you’ll find in Portugal, but the purpose built resort of Cala N’Bosch is reported as a stylish and vibrant place to holiday. We found 7 nights all inclusive (the flight is from Leeds Bradford) to be had at the Nuramar Aparthotel for just 274.50 per person.
Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt – 7 nights all inclusive, for £232 per person
It takes a little longer to fly there (around 5hrs), but the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh is a popular destination for those in search of sun and beaches. The climate is good all year (even the winter months are like a good UK summers evening). The best deals we found were for the All Seasons Badawia Hotel, located just over a mile from the town of Sharm Al Sheikh itself. It’s another high performing location on Trip advisor averaging 4/5 and based on an impressive 1333 reviews.
In part 2 of our Term Time Holiday Bargains we’ll be looking at UK breaks…
