It’s getting to that time of year when you get excited about that Spring Clean frenzy, ok maybe not, but self storage is a great way to clear the clutter to help you get ready for summer. Here we look at what there is to look forward to in London at spring time…
Going outside is no longer a military operation that requires a multitude of layers that make you hot and sweaty on the tube. You can once again enjoy the great outdoors; flowers appear everywhere – daffodils, blue bells, tulips, the range of colours that appear but without the threat of hay fever of the summer months! People seem friendlier and the anticipation of summer begins. Open all the windows in your house, smell the freshness, and blast some music!
This is also the countdown to the summer festival season, so get yourself sorted and get your tent out of storage and replace it with all that extra STUFF you needed over winter; Christmas decorations, extra clothing, thicker duvets, electric blankets, hot water bottles, ice-scrapers, sledges and skis– it can all go back into storage until next winter!
Across England ice cream shops are opening, children are playing in the streets and you can actually do things in the evening without feeling like you should be in bed! Perhaps start the year with St Patrick’s Day celebrations? Since 2002, London has had an annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade which takes place on weekends around the 17th March, usually in Trafalgar Square. In 2008 the water in the Trafalgar Square fountains was dyed green!
But don’t forget Mother’s Day on the 18th March, maybe you could offer to help sort out the house and clear some of your old school belongings into storage, Mum could perhaps even turn your old room into a gym (or rent it out during the Olympics).
To celebrate the coming of Easter, make sure you get involved with The Big Egg Hunt currently happening around London; search out the specially designed Eggs hiding around the city for the chance to win the amazing Diamond Jubilee Egg – valued at over £100,000!! Quick, better get cracking!!
Now is also the time to get training for the London Marathon, dig out those trainers and sweat bands from your storage facility (as well as your novelty fancy dress) and work those muscles! If you’re not doing so well with your New Year resolution to get fit, signing up for the marathon is a great motivation to shed those pounds.
As the days get longer and warmer there’s also plenty to do to relax. In Camden we can once again sit outside pubs, watch ducklings swimming along the canal and trawl for goodies in the market with a renewed vigour. Alternatively, get your fishing gear ready and try your luck at the lake at Wandsworth Common, or stroll along some of the oldest parts of London
in Southwark – recent excavation has revealed prehistoric activity including evidence of early ploughing, ritual activity and burial mounds (Though perhaps some of these mounds were simply very early examples of self storage!? ).
Spring is definitely on its way so let’s celebrate, spring clean, and look forward to a great summer ahead.
