STORAGE ON A GRAND SCALE…

Here at ABC Selfstore we have secure and purpose built facilities that help keep your possessions safe and out of the way. It got us thinking about other buildings that are designed and maintained purely for the storage of items whether valuable, priceless, dangerous, or secret… or all of the above…!

First that springs to mind are the Egyptian Pyramids. Now that’s storage that was built to last – dating back over 5,500 years!! The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. It is believed the pyramid was built as a tomb to store the remains of Egyptian pharaoh Khufu! Our self storage may not be as grand, but it is certainly much more affordable to use.

Heading to America, we all know about The United States Bullion Depository – otherwise known as Fort Knox. The building is used to store a large portion of United States official gold reserves and occasionally other precious items belonging or entrusted to the federal government. There is probably enough bling in that building to satisfy any rapper!

Slightly more secretive in the USA is Area 51 – the heart of many American conspiracy theories, one being that the purpose of the area is the storage, examination, and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft (including material supposedly recovered at Roswell), the study of their occupants (living and dead), and the manufacture of aircraft based on alien technology. They may store more secret items than us but we are much more flexible for people coming in and out!

Maybe Area 51 is more like depiction of the storage unit in Indiana Jones – at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc, the arc is sealed in a wooden crate labelled “top secret” and stored in a giant government warehouse filled with countless similar crates – who wouldn’t like to nosy through those boxes?! Then, in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Mr Jones destroys many of the crates in the warehouse – we promise to take much more care of your belongings than that!

Heading back to home sweet home, and another mysterious building, is the Tower of London – otherwise known as Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress. Used in the olden days to house prisoners and those who had fallen into disgrace, including political figures, kings and queens! Nowadays of course, the Tower is home to the Crown Jewels, stored safely for whenever Queenie fancies a trip with a tiara – I guess you could call that self storage on a grand scale!

Now you may not have gold, jewels, or a pickled alien to store away, but here at ABC Selfstore we will take the best care of your treasures, or anything else that gets in your way…!
