VAT on self storage

In his Budget on 21st March 2012 George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced that from 1st October 2012 all providers of self storage will be required to charge VAT on storage services at the standard rate, currently 20%.

Accordingly from 1st October 2012 all storage charges at ABC Selfstore will be subject to VAT at 20%. All other operators will be doing the same.

The impact on our stores is as follows :

ABC Wandsworth

No impact – we already charge VAT at our Wandsworth store so there will be no change as a result of this legislation.

ABC Camden & ABC Southwark

Our Camden and Southwark stores do not currently charge VAT so, from 1st October 2012, VAT at 20% will be added to storage charges.

Existing Customers at Camden and Southwark are being notified individually of the changes.

Should you have any questions about VAT and how it will affect your storage charges please contact us for assistance.

Clauses 1 & 41 of ABC’s Terms & Conditions of storage cover VAT.
