What’s in store this Bank Holiday?

The Easter Bank Holiday has got to be one of the most eagerly anticipated long weekends of the year, offering Monday to Friday workers two four-day working weeks.

Our official Bank Holidays date back to 1871 when the great Liberal MP and banker Sir John Lubbock introduced the Bank Holiday Act.  The act named four working week days on which banks would close, giving bank staff and other workers, extra paid days off work.

Sir John was also a keen supporter of cricket and therefore it is no coincidence that the chosen dates were on days when village cricket matches were scheduled to be played.  It’s clear how Sir John liked to spend his days off, but what activities have you got planned this Easter Bank Holiday?

For many, the long weekend offers the opportunity to have 16 days holiday whilst only taking eight days leave.  Some may be taking advantage of the last chance to take a family skiing holiday whilst others may use the time to jet off to in search of some clear blue skies and warm sunshine to disperse any lingering winter blues.

The UK countryside will doubtless be abuzz with ramblers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts making most of the first days of spring.  Let’s hope that the recent cold, wet and windy weather stays away – especially for the brave few who are planning to dust off their tents for their first camping outing of the year.

It’s well known that Bank Holidays also offer the perfect opportunity for DIY enthusiasts to get stuck into their latest project whilst keen gardeners will be looking forward to the opportunity to head outside to tidy the borders and perhaps give the grass its first cut of the year.  It’s also a chance to get stuck into the annual spring cleaning and clear out any clutter from our homes which can safely be put into storage until it is needed again.

Needless to say, Easter is always a busy time at ABC Selfstore’s Camden, Southwark and Wandsworth facilities as customers come and go fetching and dropping off suitcases, skis, bicycles, holiday clothes, trestle tables and a whole host of other possessions for their planned activities.

So whatever you’ve got planned this Easter Bank Holiday, whether home or away, ABC Selfstore is ready to help with all your storage needs.
