Is it useful?
Do I love it?
Are the two fundamental questions that the Association of Professional Declutterers and Orgnisers recommend if you are decluttering your home. It’s sound advice, especially if you’re prone to a spot of hoarding.
Decluttering can be a tricky proposition. ‘Be ruthless’ is an attention grabbing mantra – but anyone with a life-long collecting habit will know that it is often far easier said than done. So we’ve got a suggestion that is a less immediate and more measured way to answer APDOs two basic questions. We’ll call it the ABC Selfstore Declutter Challenge…
Rent a unit from us and use it to store all the things that you weren’t sure about when decluttering. Choose a time-frame. You could give it 2 weeks or 2 months – whatever you think is reasonable. Over the course of your storage introduce a third question: Did I miss it?
If the answer is ‘No’ you can find a new home for your things. If it’s saleable you could auction it on ebay. If there’s life in it yet, but it’s not strictly worth anything – try Freecycle or BigFreeWorld or if it is junk the local tip is the place.
