Midlands based Chartered Accountants Prime were so inspired by the the 2012 Olympics they thought it would be a good idea to cycle to all 62 gold postboxes in the UK despite none of them being professional cyclists – a challenge indeed!
Prime’s aim between July and September 2013 is to cycle over 3,600 miles from their offices in Coventry and Solihull to each gold postbox and in doing so raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Golden postbox #14 in Ecclestone is one of the two postboxes painted gold in honour of cycling legend and gold medal winner Bradley Wiggins and is sponsored by ABC Selfstore.
John Milton the Director at ABC put on his cycling gear in support and joined the Prime cycling team on route 19 from Coventry to Ecclestone.
John said “ABC are delighted to support them in this huge challenge by sponsoring postbox #14 in Ecclestone (Bradley Wiggins’ postbox) and I joined Kevin, Ian and Demsey from Prime on Saturday 14th September for the ride.
The weather was kind and the 134 mile ride, mainly on quiet country lanes, went smoothly with only one puncture, one broken spoke and a loose pedal to slow us down on the country lanes as we rode north, arriving in Ecclestone just as the sun was setting.
Thanks to Kevin for route planning, Ian & Demsey for company and food and also to John for driving the support van and the ride home!
Prime have already raised more than £20,000 and I wish them well as they tackle the final postboxes.”
