Pull out occasional beds are normally a slightly odd affair, with the second bed sliding out from under the first. More often than not it means that two people will be sleeping at different levels. And where they do have ‘legs’ to elevate them up, your guests could be in for an uncomfortable night ‘minding the gap’. So in No. 7 of our series looking at Ikeahackers innovations we look at a clever occasional or guest bed.
It’s called the ‘Pull out Tribute‘ and it is made from a single Rykene bed, but we think in the current range you’d need to use somethig like the FJELLSE (£40) + an extra set of SULTAN LADE slats (£15). You’ll also need a little extra timber, but even a few quid for that could save you a fortune, because the Tribute mirrors the far more expensive Ikea PS 2012 which is £450. The clever bit is the way the slats are offset on each ‘half’ of the bed – when the two halves are pushed together to create a single they interlock, making a solid base. When guests are in your residence the slats are all at the same height – with the offset at the edge of the single where they overlap. And the best bit… put two single sets of slats together and – even with the overlap – you’ll have a width over 180cm. That’s a King Size bed!
So, if you are clearing out your spare room to make it suitably flexible for hosting guests, then we can help with the storage. A self storage unit at one of our London stores is the perfect place to keep your things accessible but safe, secure and out of the way.
