Self storage is a great place for storing artwork, so it is no surprise that we get clients though our doors with a creative streak. None more so than Parisian born Avril le Fou, who moved to London in the late 1980s. Avril is an up and coming modern artist who has an eye for the quirky and takes much of her inspiration from the Brit Art revolution of the mid-90’s.
Avril’s latest piece “A Box and a Black thing” Or “Unit 1B 005” takes it’s cue from controversial installation “Equivalent VIII” – more commonly known as “The Bricks” by Carl Andre.
Avril says, “I ‘ope people zee za Box and Black thing for what it is, a comment ze obsession modern society ‘as wiv ze need for space. We all ‘av a footprint, but we all want a bigger piece of ze vorld.”
The installation in our Camden branch is drawing much attention and we wonder if she will be nominated for the next Turner Prize.
