It’s time for the third and final instalment of our look at the interesting and unusual items being stored here at ABC Selfstore. In part 1 we looked at Business and Beer – whilst in Part 2 we covered some terrific charities who use our facilities.
So how do we follow that for Part 3? Well, get your stethoscope out, put it to the combination lock and listen for the clicks – as we unlock our storage vault one final time…
If you thought there can’t be any more interesting stuff in storage – or previously stored – at ABC Selfstore, think again…
Zhen Shan Ren – Artworks
What is Zhen Shan Ren we hear you ask? Well, it’s a form of art – organising in China – that embodies the values of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance. Rooted in the Chinese mediative exercise of Falun Gong (which was banned by the Chinese Government in 1999) these stunning watercolours and oils give an insight into Chinese spiritual discipline.
Whilst you can’t view the exhibits stored with us (we’re a storage company not an art museum!) – if you fancy a romantic jaunt to the continent, the next exhibition is in Florence, Italy from 1st – 18th July.
Helpfully, there’s also an online exhibition – so you can see what Zhen Shan Ren has to offer with the click of your trackpad, or touch of your tablet – Right Here.
Dom Joly’s Massive Phone
Remember Trigger Happy TV? It ran for two series on Channel 4 between 2000 & 2001? If you do you’ll surely recall the guy with the massive mobile phone. Back then the cell phone was a relatively new phenomenon and Dom Joly’s character parodied the loud yuppie types who like to sound important.
If you didn’t see it – or don’t recall it – here’s a handy little clip we found on the Tube of You – it’s a compilation of all the best bits of Big Phone Guy’s guerrilla calls.
Production companies often use our self storage to store props safe and sound. Oh. And no, you can’t borrow the phone to go and recreate that classic art gallery moment at the Zhen Shan Ren – it just wouldn’t be right.
A Teddy Bears’ Mid-night Picnic?
If you go down to Wands-worth tonight, you’re in for a big surprise. That’s because one of our customers uses their unit to house hundreds of Teddy Bears.
We can’t tell you if they’re antique Steiff’s or Union-flag tank-top wearing stock for London’s tourist trade. In fact if we did the Teddy Bear Police might come after us.
What we can tell you is that Teddy’s are mischievous creatures. You know we’ve got round the clock CCTV – right? Well we’re sure we’ve seen them – Toy Story style – taking a stroll round the complex and having impromptu midnight-picnics near the lifts. Or maybe we just dreamt it.
