For kids, the summer holidays is a time of fun, freedom, adventure (or if you’re a teenager: lie in after lie in); for adults, the summer holidays can be a drag.
But, parents, nans, grandads and guardians, never fear, because if you live in and around Camden (or you’re planning on visiting), we have a guide of top things you can do with the kids.
Summer sorted! You can thank us later…
ZSL London Zoo
One of the world’s most famous and prolific animal attractions, London Zoo stands proud as a peacock between Regent’s Park and Canal – and it’s a great day out for the kids.
Not only does the website help you plan your day in advance, but this zoo is home to some of the world’s most weird and wonderful creatures, from amazing arachnids to marvellous marine life, and more.
Pack a picnic and enjoy a bite in Regent’s Park then skip on over to the zoo for a gander. Be sure to book yourself in for an animal talk too – they’re pretty impressive to say the least.
Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait exhibition
The late great Amy Winehouse is somewhat of a Camden institution and if you’re looking for things to do in Camden this summer, make sure you don’t miss out on this unique exhibition.
Hosted by the Jewish Museum until 24th September 2017, this wonderful space showcases a host of seldom seen images of Amy throughout the ages and offers a rare glimpse into her world, as well as the contributions she has made to the world of music, art, and local culture. A must see.
The Francis Crick Institute
Nearby in the Kings Cross and Euston area, The Francis Crick Institution is sure to blow your child’s tiny mind – in a good way, of course.
Offering a selection of talks and exhibits, a visit here offers an incredible insight into some of the world’s best scientific minds. From cutting-edge experiments to smart thinking, this glimpse inside the Crick reveals a snapshot of living science right at the source.
The St Katherine Docks Treasure Trail
Around five miles (it’s not that far!) from Camden, St Katharine’s Docks is a great place to take the kids over the summer – especially when there’s treasure to be found.
This exciting self-guided treasure trail is suitable for juniors from four right the way through to 18 and offers up a series of cunning clues all geared towards finding the loot and exploring the most exciting areas of the docks. It will keep the kids entertained for hours (well, unless they cheat or they’re geniuses) and afterwards, there’s a great pub you can take them to (you might need a glass of wine after all that treasure hunting).
Of course, if you’re in Camden with the kids this summer, a visit to the market is a must. Looking for some interesting trivia to share while you’re there? Check out these amazing Camden Market facts.
