Kingston (not to be confused with the place in Jamaica) is a pretty little spot in South West London that lies on the meandering banks of the River Thames.
If you want to skip out of the heart of the city for the day without having to travel for miles upon miles, Kingston is the perfect spot.
Not sure what to do in Kingston? Don’t sweat it, pal. We’ve got a few suggestions just for you…
Do the old Kingston shuffle
No, it’s not a dance – that’s not even it’s official name – but it should be. What we’re actually talking about is a guided walking tour of Kingston that will give you an amazing insight into the area’s history, as well as its many famous residents. These walking tours start at the Ancient Market Place at 11 am and are well worth a fiver – don’t miss out.
Shop til you drop, or just browse a bit
Kingston not only boasts a lot of quirky independent shops peppered around the Ancient Market Square, but it’s also home to The Bentall Centre which is crammed full of high street gems. They’re close to each other too – so after your walk, have a butcher’s in Kingston’s prime shopping spots and bag yourself a well-deserved bargain.
Roast it up
The stretch of Thames that runs through Kingston is a sight for sore eyes, and when you couple these prime riverside views with a big, fat, tasty roast, you’ll be as happy as that bloke, Larry.
The Boaters strikes the perfect balance between modern and traditional and its guest ales are top notch. For lager drinkers, there are plenty of solid options too, and the spirit and wine list is immense.
Many say The Boaters serves up the best roast in town and we’d be inclined to agree. So sit back, slug your drink, soak up the views, enjoy your roast and be merry – it is Sunday after all.
A musical finale
Banquet Records is somewhat of a local institution and it often hosts record signings as well as in-store performances that attract big crowds. Now, we can’t guarantee you’ll connect with a live performance when you visit but at the very least, you’ll get to marvel at this legendary store and browse its incredible library of music. We know it’s all about digital downloads these days, but while you’re in there, treat yourself to something – it will be become of the best souvenirs you’ve ever owned.
Kingston upon Thames is a wonderful spot and if you’re visiting on a Sunday, we hope you enjoy this mini guide. And if you’re thinking about moving to the area soon and you need a hand with self storage, please do drop us a line – we’ll be happy to help.
