It’s the Summer Holidays Again. Here’s What to Do With The Kids in Wandsworth

Wow, half the year has been and passed already. Where does the time go and who keeps it? Who knows? We don’t. But, one thing we do know is that we’re living in the heart of a glorious heat wave and the start of summer holidays has begun.

That said, if you have the excitable school-ridden tikes this summer holidays and you’re looking for fun things to see and do in or around the good old London Borough of Wandsworth, never fear – because we’ve got a few ideas up our sleeve – and here they are for your consideration.

The Museums

Okay, these particular London museums aren’t officially in Wandsworth, but they’re very close and they’re a must visit during the summer holidays.

Both within walking distance of one another, both the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum are cultural icons – and they’re cram packed with plenty of weird, wonderful and mind-blowing things to see and do. Plus, during the summer holidays, both museums lay on extra events and activities for the kids – so don’t miss out.

Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

Yes, there’s a zoo that exists solely for the entertainment of children – and it’s awesome – in a teeny tiny way, of course. From monkeys, meerkats and snakes to sheep, donkeys, bunny rabbits and more, there is an endless choice of amazing creatures for your little ones to say hi to – there’s also a huge adventure playground on-site, as well as a tasty little cafe for the parents to kick in and shoot the breeze while the kids go ape (if you’ll pardon the pun). Heaps of summer holiday fun.

Putney Heath

We wouldn’t dream of having a Wandsworth summer holidays activity list  without mentioning a top notch green open space to take the kids – and Putney Heath has a sensational 400-acres worth of it. What’s more, the Heath runs directly into Wimbledon Common making up a colossal 1,000 acres of heathland, parkland, walking paths, natural gardens, adventure areas and a ‘mere’ nine ponds. If the weather is even just okay, you can enjoy an unforgettable day out here – and one with all that walking, the kids will definitely go off to bed without too much protest come the evening.

Tooting Bec Lido

For fun-filled aquatics day out when the weather’s fine, head on over to Tooting Bec Lido. It’s the biggest fresh water, open air swimming pool in entire country and has been voted as the ‘best outdoor pool’ twice in  recent years. This awesome art deco pool spans 91.5 metres and has a children’s paddling pool, sauna and a big old enclosed grass area for lounging, picnicking and playing. It boasts top-notch facilities for families of all sizes, which include a cafe, amenable changing rooms and lockers. Get yourselves down there this summer holidays for a splashing good time.

We hope you have the time with the kids this summer holidays and if you live in the area or you’re moving here soon and in need of a little Wandsworth self storage, please do drop us a line.
